“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Now, we're not Shakespeare, and maybe when talking about two star-crossed lovers, any name will suffice to identify a beautiful teenager. But in the modern world, your name is your brand, it is your identity, and as melodramatic as it may sound, it could make or break the success of your start-up. If you’ve ever started a company, you know it is not easy. There are so many components that it can seem overwhelming.
Oftentimes, your mission of wanting to make a difference in the world or create a desirable product can get lost amongst the Conflict of Interest policies, EIN applications, new bank accounts, and building the perfect website. Then on top of that, you have to fill out all the paperwork with a name that will define who you are as a company, now and in the future. Not typically an easy process, however for us, that was one of the most effortless decisions we made.
The name came to us the way all good ideas always do - while we were doing and thinking about something completely unrelated. There was no debate, no second contenders. We knew right away that it was the perfect way to describe our mission, our heart and our brand.
The name resonated so strongly with us because as recipients of divine grace, we strive to, in turn, live out this same love and mercy with our lives.
Not only are these dresses created By Grace, they are made By Lamisi, By Lydia, By Anna. We are not just another brand with a catchy name so you will follow us on Instagram (although you should totally follow us @bygrace_designs), we are a brand that is encouraging women to create. To do. To act. Starting where you are with what you have - because it may not be much (trust us, we know what that feels like), but we have seen firsthand (and continue to be amazed by) how something so small can grow so quickly.
We'll leave you with two of our other favorite Bible verses that sum up what "grace" means to us and our company:
"From the fullness of his grace, we have all received one blessing or another." John 1:16
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Corinthians 9:8
Until next time,
